How to Use Chat in TrustPager
Use Chat for real-time team rooms, client conversations inside portals, direct messages, Evie your AI assistant, TrustPager support, and the wider community. Covers rooms, auto-provisioned DMs, invites, roles, mentions, attachments, and talking to Evie.
Chat is TrustPager's built-in messaging layer. It lives at https://app.trustpager.com/chat and gives your team a real-time place to talk internally, collaborate with clients inside their portals, and join the wider TrustPager community, all without leaving the platform.
The sidebar: four types of room
Every room you belong to appears in the left sidebar, grouped into four sections:
- Private: rooms with your teammates only. Nothing leaves your workspace.
- Shared: rooms that include at least one person from outside your workspace. This includes clients, partners, guests, and the TrustPager team. Your TrustPager Support room lives here too, as it is a room shared between your workspace and the TrustPager team.
- Direct Messages: one-to-one conversations with each of your teammates, plus a private "Notes to self" room at the top of the section for jotting things down privately. These are set up automatically. You never have to create them.
- Public: platform-wide community channels open to every TrustPager user, such as Introductions, General Chat, and Help Center. You are a member automatically, with no join step.
Direct Messages: always ready, no setup needed
When your workspace is created, TrustPager automatically sets up a Direct Message between every pair of teammates. Whenever someone joins or leaves the workspace, the list is updated for you.
- Notes to self sits at the top of the Direct Messages section. Use it as a private scratchpad. Only you can see it.
- Each teammate appears below that, labelled with their name and avatar. Just click to open the conversation and start messaging.
- If a teammate is removed from the workspace, their Direct Message is archived automatically: it disappears from your list but the message history is kept. If they rejoin later, the same conversation reopens exactly where it left off.
- On a workspace shared with the TrustPager team (a client workspace), the TrustPager team does not appear in your Direct Messages list. You only get DMs with your own workspace teammates.
Evie: your AI assistant, right there in your Direct Messages
Every TrustPager user gets a private, one-to-one conversation with Evie, TrustPager's AI assistant, sitting in the Direct Messages section of Chat at https://app.trustpager.com/chat. It is set up automatically: you never have to add her or start the conversation yourself.
- Message Evie the same way you message a teammate. No @mention needed in this conversation: she replies to everything you send her.
- Ask her questions, get her to look things up across your workspace, or ask her to take action for you, create an opportunity, update a contact, send a message. She works within your own permissions, so she can only do what you are able to do yourself.
- This conversation is private to you. Every teammate has their own separate Evie DM.
If you used to talk to Evie through a panel in the left sidebar or a floating bubble on mobile, that has been retired. Evie now lives in Chat, so head to https://app.trustpager.com/chat and open your conversation with her there.
Starting a conversation
To create a group room, click New Room in the sidebar and pick the teammates you want to include. Your one-to-one Direct Messages are already there in the sidebar, ready to go. Just click a teammate's name to open the conversation.
What you can do in a message
- Send messages in real time. Green dots show who is online, and you will see when someone is typing.
- Use @mentions to notify a specific person, or to bring Evie into the conversation (see below).
- Attach files and images directly in the message box.
- Reply to anchor your message to an earlier one with a quote.
- Edit or delete your own messages after sending.
- Unread badges flag rooms with new activity.
Inviting someone to a room
Open the room, then click the member avatars in the top-right corner to open the Members panel, and choose Invite by email.
- If the person already has a TrustPager account, they join the room instantly.
- If they do not have an account yet, they get an invite to set one up and land straight in the room once they do.
Room roles
- Owner: created the room; full control.
- Host: can invite new people and manage the room.
- Member: can read and send messages.
To promote someone from Member to Host, open the Members panel and change their role there.
Bring Evie into a team room
In team rooms, Evie only replies when you mention her by name. Type @Evie in your message and she will jump in and answer, right there in the room, for everyone to see.
- Before you can @mention her, add her to the room: open the room, click the member avatars in the top-right corner to open the Members panel, then Add Team and choose Evie.
- Once she is a member, anyone in the room, including admins, can @mention her.
TrustPager Support: your direct line to us
When you first open Chat at https://app.trustpager.com/chat, you will find a TrustPager Support room already waiting for you inside the Shared Rooms section. It is a room shared between your workspace and the TrustPager team, which is exactly what Shared Rooms are for. Evie from our team joins automatically to welcome you and get you set up, and you can @Evie in this room any time you need her.
Use your Support room for:
- Questions about setting up or using TrustPager
- Onboarding help and platform walkthroughs
- Flagging anything that does not look right
- General feedback or feature requests
The conversation is private to your workspace. Reply any time and the TrustPager team will pick it up.
Chat in client portals
You can add Chat to any client portal so portal members message your team directly from inside their portal at https://portal.trustpager.com. No separate app and no setup on their end. The conversation shows up in your workspace Chat alongside your other rooms.
To set it up, open the portal in the builder from https://app.trustpager.com/operations/portals and add the Chat feature to one of the portal's menus, the same way you add Forms, Files, or Work Orders.
Public community channels
The Public section connects you to the wider TrustPager community. These channels are shared across every workspace on the platform, so you can introduce yourself, ask questions, and talk shop with other TrustPager users. Your membership is automatic. They appear in your sidebar as soon as you open Chat at https://app.trustpager.com/chat.
